YAKIMA, Wash. -- A collegiate atmosphere was in full effect at Eisenhower High School, where the Ike Cadets hosted the Davis Pirates. Both student sections filled the gymnasium with cheers, jeers, and flat out nonsense as their teams battled on the hardwood.
Possibly the most physical game I have covered, with guys diving after every loose ball and shoving for position in the paint. The most impressive thing about it, was that no matter who was on the floor an apposing player was helping the fallen off the floor with a pat on the rear to award the hustle.
Davis hopped up early forcing several turn-over's with their fast pace playing style and in-your-face man defense. Eisenhower battled back with 3-point buckets to bring the score within two to end the first quarter, then outscored the Pirates 29-17.
Ryan Watson (Ike) battled underneath the basket to get 16 points 12 rebounds and was the deciding factor, proving to be too much for Devante Luckett (Dav) and Drew Winkler (Dav).
The second half Davis seemed winded dropping back into a zone defense which allowed more three point action by the Cadets, who took full advantage finishing the game 11 of 18 from beyond the arch, all five of starters had at least 12 points. Sophomore David Trimble was the only Pirate in double figures, he had 12 points in the 82-57 loss
