Yes, crank up the FROSH/JV discussion! We have caught a little of some of those games, but not a ton.

Not sure exactly what happened to Rene.

I know that both Kennewick teams beat Pendleton. Freshman lost to Hermiston. Southridge Freshman lost to Wenatchee 28-0, J/V beat Wenatchee 3-0. Freshman beat Walla-Walla 28-20. These are all second hand scores my daughter has relayed to me so the exact points may be off.

I’ll only be able to post for Richland Freshman as my son plays for Richland, but I’ll be as unbiased as a parent can. The beauty of having your child go through grid-kids is that you’re able to learn the names of the athletes on many teams. The bonus is when you see them continue onto high school where they’re smarter, more experienced, bigger, faster, etc. During the spring football camp held at Hanford High, I was most impressed with the freshman coaching staff of Kennewick. They were passionate and took the time on the sidelines to explain things individually to their players. Their team’s performance showed and in my opinion, they had the best outing. I was also very impressed with the energy and effort shown by Hermiston.
Week 1 Richland –vs- Pasco. Final score 19-16. Richland’s defense and running attack almost mirror images the varsity team while the Pasco’s QB is possibly the most accurate throwing player I’ve witnessed all year. Keep your eye on Clifton Lozano (a.k.a. Snoop). From grid-kids on, he’s marveled most that have watched his dynamic play. Pasco needs to ensure that this doesn’t become a 1 horse race. The grid-kids team and now the frosh team have decided that if they’re not winning, give the ball to Snoop and he’ll win it for us. Exceptional as he is, he’s still one man and a good defense will neutralize him most of the game.
Week 2 Richland –vs- Hanford. Final score 36-14. Hanford has huge lineman and an exceptional receiver in Ben Kelly. They have two QB’s that offer different abilities, and #44 “Will” has been another grid-kid standout that is much faster, bigger, and stronger than most linebackers attempting to tackle him. I don’t know why the score was so lopsided.
Richland has huge depth and talent. They field 58 athletes. They have two QB’s that would start at other schools. They have 5 quality running backs and the same number of linebackers. They have 4 receivers/DB’s that catch most things thrown their way. The line is a bit undersized compared to the other lines they’ve faced this year, but they are so well trained that they almost dominate their area. Without question if this team stays together, they will be contenders in a few years. The one problem I see is the current coaching staff plays their starting 11 even when they have a 30 point lead. How can you have quality depth when your 2nd and 3rd string has limited experience?
From what I witnessed at the Hanford conditioning camp, the freshman game for September will be on the 30th at 5p.m. when Chiawana hosts Richland. Other than Lozano, the rest of the McLoughlin 4x1 track relay team is on the football team. Prediction Richland 21 Chiawana 14

Being in Sunnyside I can only comment on the Grizzlies JV and Frosh. I have known many of them from coaching them when they were younger. Have not heard anything about th JV team but the Frosh team rolled over Davis 49-0. They run the double wing offense so lots of kids get to touch the ball. Jose Pacheco stands out as a hard runner with great balance. I f I get anymore info I will pass it on.

Chiawana Frosh beat IKE can't remember the score but it was a blow out. Renzn, you are right about Clifton Lozano (a.k.a. Snoop) he is a beast, but the teams he has been on grid kids up till now rely on him a lot and having your eggs in one basket is scary. I have seen him a lot, my B squad used to scrimmage against him weekly, he is a great kid and plays so hard. You never know how kids will develop as they get older but he is worker ( i used to see him running sprints after practice dragging a tire) and I think he will be a special high school player too! I was impressed by Chiawana Frosh QB Joey Zamora ( I believe he is Miquiyah Zamora's cousin) he has a strong arm and was accurate. He stands probably 6 ft and has good speed although he didn't run much. He made a couple nice 30+ yard throws against IKE. He also spun out of a sack, threaded the needle on a 20 yard TD pass to WR who was double covered, probably shouldnt have thrown it. You know the type of pass where a coach goes no, no, good job!

Freshman: Richland 43, Davis 6
Oldrustydog was right about Davis. They attempted a double wing offense and #12 was their best runner; however, when you have a roster of 18 and the opposing squad has 58, through attrition alone you’re going to suffer. It rained heavily before the game and sprinkled throughout the game. Davis fumbled inside their 30 their first two possessions and the score was 29 to 0 with 2 minutes remaining in the 1st quarter. My hat goes off to the Davis boys. They were tired, beat up, and downtrodden about losing, but they never gave up. One big pass over the middle and a quick score helped bring their passion back. Richland is simply too deep at the skilled positions and the line is very well trained. I worried that Richland was becoming a run only team, but Gibson McGeorge #8 and Anthony Galat #11 are good quarterbacks and they’ve begun to throw with confidence. Keep your eye on Jesse Malone #15. He’s an exceptional receiver and defensive back. Some may remember #5 Derek Redden from the Richland Raider grid-kid team. He’s small in stature but plays with absolute determination. #32 Bennett Peterson may be the hardest hitting safety I've ever witnessed.
Chiawana vs Richland at CHS, Thursday the 30th at 5.pm. Both teams were impressive during the spring conditioning camp.
